Last Christmas I received a gift certificate from Family Christian stores and found a little book called Red Letters – Living A Faith That Bleeds by Tom Davis. Tom Davis author of Fields of the Fatherless and president of Children’s HopeChest a Christian child advocacy organization helping orphans in Russia, Eastern Europe and Africa.
Tom puts it like this, “In many Bibles, Christ’s words are set apart with red letters. This distinction reminds us that when God becomes Man and speaks, it’s probably something we cannot afford to miss.” Tom lives his life for “the least of these” and embodies the essence of “No BS Just Jesus” and in fact if you only have time to read one blog daily I certainly recommend reading his.
Tom writes that he gets up daily and determines that he is going to look for Jesus. He is talking about looking for Jesus in the eyes of the people he encounters daily. He is talking about the poor, the handicapped, the oppressed, and the AIDS victim. Throughout the scriptures Jesus seems to have great concern for the poor and the downtrodden. In fact, he even said that when you care for these you are actually caring for Him.
In Matthew 25:40 Jesus says that “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Do you want to become intimate with Jesus? Do you want to experience more of Jesus? He is right there … at the convenience store, the diner, the local jail and the hospital. How many times has Jesus come to you in the form of the poor and you didn’t realize it? What wonderful opportunities we might find when we start paying attention.
